FLUGBLÄTTER
A PROJECT BY BIRGIT JENSEN
Showing concurrently with Miniscule Part 2
23 March – 18 May 2019

About the exhibition
Flugblätter, which translates as ‘flyers’ or ‘flying letters’, sees 130 artists share their artistic responses to globalisation in an innovative and thought-provoking exhibition.
To create the show, artist Birgit Jensen approached artists she knew from around the world, inviting them to contribute an image and accompanying text by email – each contribution reflects a different perspective on the transformations of our society in recent years – whether philosophical, social, political, economical or ecological – including reflections on the changes the artists have experienced locally in the 41 different countries in which they live.
A vast spectrum of answers is brought together in the exhibition; every response relates to a different point of view. It shows that artistic thinking is rooted in specific social experience.
The participating artists come from 41 different countries and from all continents. Flyers includes contributions from Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Cuba, England, Ireland, Croatia, Hungary, Kosovo, Poland, Turkey, Italy, Cyprus, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Russia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Togo, Senegal, Argentina, Chile, Iran, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, Canada and the USA.
The exhibition Flugblätter was originally presented in Künstler Gut Loitz e.V. in Loitz an der Peene in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany in August 2017 (in collaboration with Barbara Camilla Tucholski) and then in the exhibition space of Pictura in Dordrecht, Netherlands in March 2018 (in collaboration with Teresiña Talarico). In September 2018 it was shown in Maebashi, Japan (in collaboration with Kenzo Onoda and art & culture, Maebashi).
Birgit Jensen is a Düsseldorf-based artist.
